Hi readers in the PAL world,

A quick note about the FCP 5.0.2 Uncompressed 10-bit + 8-bit PAL sequence presets

I noticed both presets had the field domainance set to Lower instead of Upper

    Please change it

    Cheers
    Ben

That’s an Apple issue, not an AJA issue. Report that directly to Apple using their feedback tool.

Thanks for the heads up Ben, of course you didn’t mention AJA did you!
I guess you mean the built in FCP uncompressed presets? I use the AJA IO presets so I don’t have this problem.

But the way are you getting problems and image softening when you add drop shadows to rendered movie files from Livetype or imported quicktime graphics? As soon as I switch on a motion shadow on a graphic item in the timeline, the graphics raises up by about half a line in the canvas and through my IO, the graphic hen look rough and aliased. This applies to DV and uncompressed files, all set to high quality. But only to text files rendered in Livetype, and 3D files I have received from a 3rd party. The inbuilt text generator and photoshop layers seem OK.

I’ve alerted APPLE to the problems I am getting. I don’t think the latest updates have had any effect whatsoever to my system. My only solution is still to set a sequence to ‘fastest’ motion filtering. But motion tab moves on large still image files continue to look rough.

    Hi Wally

I posted in FCP, Blackmagic & AJA forums to share this piece of info

Btw I’m referring to the Uncompressed 10bit & 8bit PAL sequence presets in FCP 5.0.2

If you are using AJA Io (all favours), you should be using the Apple presets, if I’m not wrong

The 2 systems I encountered this problem is running AJA IoLD hardware

    System Config :

    OS X 10.3.9

    QT 7.0.1

    FCP 5.0.2

    AJA Io driver 2.0

Duncan : I have not tried the stuff you mentioned

Thanks for sharing the info with us

    Cheers

When I put a drop shadow on my text in FCP, it starts flickering
like mad. Without a drop shadow, it’s fine. Have you solved your problem?

    Thanks,
    Kathy

    Hi Kathy

If your timeline render status bar is a anything other than grey when there’s no effects on the clip

then you might want to check the Field Domainance in the timeline settings

Make sure its Upper Field for PAL Uncompressed sequences

Managed to resolved my issue by changing this settings

    Cheers
    Ben
