    Adam,

I came across an old post you helped someone with a while back:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?univpostid=854769&forumid=19&postid=854772&pview=t

I am trying to do the same thing using an older C4d, v6XL. I managed to put a light at the end of the projection lens and have it display on a screen in the distance and used a .mov on the transparency channel (thank you very much for posting the solution, I NEVER would have figured it out!).

Everything is fine except for one area: in the graphic that you posted, the colors of the light seem to have a point of origin and spread out in a cone shape. In the render that I’ve made, the light spreads out in a cone shape, but the colors don’t; they seem to project themselves in the volumetric lighting in a parallel/straight direction.

Do you know what I need to do to get the colors to spread out in a cone shape in the volumetric light? I can post an image if I haven’t made myself clear.

    Take care,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

I’m not sure what the problem is. It could be a difference between R6 and later versions. It’s been a long time since I’ve used R6.

    Adam,

Thank you for your reply. I downloaded a demo of v9.5 off the Maxon website and tried it, the colors behave as I would expect them to…looks like I’m going to have to save some money!

Another question about your example: I’m not sure size of source file you used for the projected transparency; in my test I’m using an image that is 384×288, 72dpi. When this image is projected onto the screen, only an enormous section of the image is actually seen on the screen. What I would like to do is ‘shrink’ the size of the image projected to match the size of my screen. In my v6 I am able to scale the size of the outer edges of the light’s cone so that the projected image resizes, but in 9.5 the projected image scales itself in correspondance with the scale of the cone.

I’m only interested in seeing my results in the render window as I am not able to save my images in the demo.

    Take care,

    Nick
