    Hi-

I’m running into an issue when I try to use certain fonts in Final Cut Pro. We need to use Avant Garde Bk BT Demi font and it is installed in my Font Book, however, everytime I use it in Final Cut, FCP automatically italicizes it. I don’t want it italicized but somehow cannot avoid it. Has anyone else experienced this? I tried to tweak all the settings without avail. Let me know thanks!

    John

Are you using the FCP “native” titlers, or Boris “Title 3D”?

I always avoid the native titlers in FCP.

Yes, I’ve had issues like that in FCP. What happens is that when you install a font usually you install a font family, and FCP chooses (in ways unknown to us mortals) which of the family it wants to use as a base font.

One way to solve it is to avoid using internal FCP text generators and use plugins or LiveType instead. However, you cannot always avoid that.

The other solution is to go into Font Book, isolate the specific font, export it, rename, and use it under a different alias. That opens a whole new can of worms, but it solves the issue if you must work within FCP exclusively.
