  Folder size shrinks when backing up to a Fire Wire Drive

  Hi Group

  Before I try to upgrade to OS X Tiger again I have been backing up my computer. I am using a Mac G4 733 running OS 9.2.2. I’ve noticed something perculiar when performing my back-up. The size of my folders varies when I back up from an internal hard drive to an external Fire Wire hard drive. I have been using the drag and drop copy method between drives and my folder sizes seem to get smaller when the folder appears on the fire wire drive.

  For example, my applications folder went from 941 MB on the system drive to 823 MB on the Fire Wire drive. Every folder has shrunk in size to some degree.

  Why is there such a discrepancy?

  Are there hidden files that don’t copy to a FW drive?
