FLVs Just Don’t Look Good Anymore
Hi there,
I’ve been using flash as my video delivery for the web for quite some time. Originally, when I was in the DV world, I would just export to the Flash MX2004 PRO 1.2 codec directly out of FCP with great results. Then, when I went to HDV, I noticed that everything I exported had a very strange sync issue where the video and the picture simply did not look “synced”. It wasn’t exactly drift, but it definitely wasn’t in sync. So, I got Cleaner 6.0 and used that making great looking Flash for quite some time whether HDV or DV.
Then, one day, my .flv settings in Cleaner simply did not work anymore, they were greyed out. Must of been after some update to Quicktime or something. Anyhow, I started using Sorenson Squeeze 4.0. The video looks pretty good, but not nearly as good as it used to directly out of FCP. The edges aren’t as sharp, I get a lot of murky looking footage etc. I bought Cleaner 6.5 which touted great .flv encoding only to find it uses a terrible encoder which takes forever and looks terrible. I bought Flash 8 because I heard that encoder was good. Unfortunately, it is not even the old 2-pass .flv encoder. The on2v6 might be good, but that one is not nearly as ubiquitious as the old encoder.
Anyhow, what I’m asking is, does anyone know what I’m talking about? What is the current way to get razor-sharp, great looking .flvs now that things seem to have gotten so weird?
Thanks,
