Do you have Adobe Flash? What version of FCP are you using? What version of Quicktime do you have?
Quicktime does not come with any FLV Export plugin. You must have purchased a Flash type program that exports thru Quicktime to get that support, such as On2 Flash Exporter or Adobe Flash.

January 27, 2010 at 3:20 pmFinal Cut version 5.1.4
Quicktime 7.6.4I do not see Flash listed in my applications. I did purchase “Video Flash Converter” from Macvide a couple years ago but am not satisfied with the quality.
The weird thing is that I used to have the option to export to Flash from FCP and now that option is missing. It probably has something to do with upgrading to Snow Leopard and then having to downgrade back to Leopard?

January 27, 2010 at 3:52 pmIn that case, you;ll have to reinstall your program for Flash conversion.
Let me ask, have your clients been OK with the quality of the Flash files? I ask, because I tried that program a few years ago and it didn’t meet the quality the client was expecting. We, finally ended up having to purchase the On2 Flix Exporter from On2 Technologies. Everything was great after that.

January 27, 2010 at 3:56 pmHi Wayne,
Are you saying that I”ll need to reinstall FCP again and then the flash conversion option will be there? Do I also need to download Flash?Quality is ok on Video Flash Converter. I definitely got better quality exporting from FCP but i would say it is satisfactory for web video.
Thanks for your help!

No… You’ll need to reinstall your Video Flash Converter program. FCP ONLY uses what is installed in the Quicktime Library at the time of startup of FCP. If it’s not in the Quicktime Library folder FCP will not see it. But I would suggest that you look into On2 Technologies, Flix Exporter. Its only $200 and its perfect to work with inside of FCP and better yet, Compressor.

January 27, 2010 at 5:32 pmHi Elizabeth,
To present flash your clip does not have to be flash. You can simply encode your online files with quicktime with the H264 codec and rename the extension of the resulting file to .flv. Its an accepted, working and free solution.

February 17, 2010 at 9:46 pmI was able to fix this issue.
I upgraded to Snow Leopard and then had to downgrade back to Leopard. The FLV Component was deleted. I was able to find a backup FLV Component in my Previous Systems folder.
Thanks for the help!

May 8, 2010 at 12:21 pmHello,
was using CS3, now upgrade to CS4.
I had to reinstall Flash Encoder CS3 and Quicktime Pro 7 on another Mac to copy the FLV plug in Quicktime installed by Flash CS3.
(Main)HD / Library / Quicktime / FLV.component
Just copy now at the same place in your Library Main Hard drive…..and WOW !If you have just one computer, you must uninstall Flash and Media encoder and install Flash Encoder CS3 to pickup the FLV.component file , reinstall Flash and Media Encoder CS4 and finish input the file at the good place.
nb: MediaEncoderCS4 make a better render but like me, you think that Quicktime render is enough sometimes…Hope it”s helpfull to you
