I saw a demo today of a wedding. They did a technique of doing a 360 deg around a cake table. They also “floated” up the church aisle. Every shot look so smooth.

    How did they do this?

I thought it was done by some camera technique but then I had read that Adobe After Effects can create this look? Is there something in Vegas that will give that same smooth look? (Or some plug in I can purchase without spend $1K on After Effects?)

I do not believe it can be done adequately (if at all) by sotware.
This is ‘flying’ and a special piece of equipment, a stabilizer’ is required plus a lot of practice to get good at it. There are several devices on the market.

It called a “Steadicam“. They are not cheap (but some are less than $1K) and as Terry said, they take a bit of practice to get good at.

I made a video summarizing how a flying camera support works with some ideas about cost and even building your own:

While the Steadicam is the proper and best way to do this (and there are a few cheapie versions available too), you CAN do a passable job in software. Red Giant produce “Magic Bullet Steady” and there’s the free VirtualDub plug-in “Deshaker”. Search “deshaker” in YouTube to get an idea of what can be achieved.

Digital Juice is having a Partner sale on SteadyTracker. It seems like a good deal and there’s one handsome guy you might know in the promo video. 😉 Check it out at DigitalJuice.
