Well, I’m a little less newer at FCP since my last post. I have a basic 3 layer effect with images in boxes, title and background. When I play back the boxes are jittering up a storm. However on the computer display, looks fine. I see all the the stuff in the filters about de-flicker, de-interlace, de-etc. Tried applying them but no effect.

Be sure to “Render All” before playing back. If you see a green bar above the timeline, then FCP is playing it back realtime, but quality of playback is suffering to give you that realtime. Not to worry, when you are ready to Edit to Tape it will render for you even if you forget. So try the Render All (if you haven’t already) and see how it looks after that.

If you have already rendered, then we are looking at a different problem altogether. It would be best to rule that out first though.

Are the boxes just a pixel thick or so? If so, they’ll jump back and forth between fields as they play on a TV.
Add a vertical blur to the box to fix that (just a 1 to 2 pixel vertical blur will fix it if that’s the problem).

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I’ve rendered all. I’m going to check out the edge. Now that you’ve mentioned it. I think they might be too small. I’m sitting with the book trying to figure out how to take the completed spot out to DVD pro for the first time…pretty scary so far.

You guys were right about the thickness of the soft edge. cut it back until no more flicker. Thanks
