    Hi,
I’ve run into this problem in occasional scenes, and was looking for some insight. I have a really simple model of skin. It is a cube, with the middle points depressed creating a shallow (wrinkle). I then animate the points to get rid of the shallow. I’m using soft (shadow maps) shadows in the lights. When I animate, there is a noticeable flickering in the shadow. I can use area shadows, or raytraced (hard) shadows, but the area shadows really slow down the render. I can change my sample radius all the way up to the max (20), and that works, but it increases my render time substantially. I like the look of the shadow at a radius of only 3 in the soft shadow, compared to the area shadows, or increased radius in the soft shadows. Any suggestions on getting rid of this flickering without increasing the sample radius?

    Mike
