Yup, me again! Can anybody tell me why I’ve got flickering and a dancing shadow in this logo I’ve rendered??

I only have two lights in the scene: an overhead AREA light, and an OMNI light in front of the logo, both with soft shadows checked on. The textures I’ve applied are from maxon’s templates, so they are nothing that complex. I do have a lot of polygons, however, as I was having trouble getting smooth curves. But why would that give me that dancing shadow on the floor??

Ugh. I need a rest…hopefully some kind hearted COW folks can show me the way.

    Thanks!

I ran in that problem too. I suspect hhe flickering comes from the shadow map which has a too small resolution. Try setting the shadow resolution to 1000×1000 for example, and adjust the sample to your taste.

    Hope this helps.

    Donat-

Ahh, yes! Thanks!! Boosting the shadow map resolution fixed the dancing shadow, but I still have the flickering on the bottom of the number 1 in the logo. I’ve tried various combinations of Caps, Fillet caps, etc., and that area of the logo always misbehaves. I’m guessing it’s a polygon or triangluation issue?? Anybody have thoughts on smoothing it out?

    Many, many thanks!!

I applied Brian’s smooth curve tip (in COW post right below this one) and the logo now behaves.

    Thank you THE COW!!
