March 27, 2009 at 8:30 pmI will try that in P2cms, I have been able to also open the MXF files in QT and export them as ProRes Qt’s and then stitch the video and audio back together in FCP. Thanks again for your help.

Yeah, that makes sense if the video is acutally there. In the clip you sent, there’s nothing there, even though it looks like it.
Good luck, Jonny. And sorry I had to break it to you.

April 24, 2009 at 7:46 pmI wanted to post a resolution to the damaged MXF files and the fact they wouldn’t convert from the toast .iso files. I had thought the media was gone and was going to have a bear of an edit because I had 2 hours of the 12 hours that were shot. I had decided as a last ditch effort to send a drive with the media to a friend who was an UNIX programmer. He was able to go in and grab the files and copy them to another folder without mounting the .ISO files. Well I got the drive back and was able to convert 95% of the footage into FCP in the new folders he created (ie. standard OSX folders like they were on the P2 card). So basically the .iso files were not allowing me to read and write all of the data contained in the compressed files, although everything was there. So other than about 8 minutes of damaged footage full of digital noise the entire shoot was saved and I was able to edit a good product in the end. The lesson here is use only tried and true P2 procedures like shot put.
I would like to thank everyone who helped with this and I know what to tell people on set to do before I get the footage and don’t have another nightmare

Nice, and that’s one of the ways you had to do it. You can open the file in certain situations, but it’s not for the faint of heart to try and fix the bit matrix. I know I can’t do it.

Nonsense. Post whenever about whatever. It’s what this place is about. You learn about what you don’t know!
