Yep, you are right. Totally corruptified. I sent it to FCP and it dodn’t work, and then I tried to open the MXF video file with a free tool that comes with MXF Import called MXF Info Light and it says that it can’t read the MXF header:

The DP, does he have the original material still without the .dmg business?

There’s some weird stuff going on with this file.

The encompassing folder (0006CT) says it’s 18MBs when you get info on it.

The video mxf file, however, says it’s 271 MBs.

Let me take a further look and hopefully I can find something else out.

Crazy isn’t it. The DP does not have the files as he was on location in Europe and was off loading to a drive… I know this is a bit crazy and I have been worried since this is all stuff shot on location. Is there a way to rip open the MXF package and look at the image sequence?

I am going to have to get back to you on that. I am taking a look and seeing what I can find. It might take a little while, though.

Is this file 24pN or 24p over 60?

    Mr Revolt-

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your video is lost. There is no data in the file, meaning the video is filled with all zeros and there’s nothing that can be done to recover it from these files. Unless there’s a copy of the original media without the Toast made dmgs, you might be out of luck. Any chance of that or is the only media that exists from these dmgs?

    Really sorry.

Jeremy thank you so much for looking into this. The clip I sent you was one of the worst clips. Right now I have about 80% of the project online. It’s crazy because some clips came in fine some clips are fine for the first couple of minutes and then go bad and some clips like you saw were completely bad. Also there have been some cases where I have been able to recover the audio but not the video.

Is there anything that can be done with files that are partially there but grey out half way through?

    Thanks

[Jonny Revolt] “Also there have been some cases where I have been able to recover the audio but not the video. “

The audio was good on these clips that you sent as well. (sounds interesting by the way)

I’d try ingesting in p2cms setting an in and an out and making a new MXF file. I have never tried it before, but it MIGHT work.
