fixing a project with ntsc footage wrongly edited in a sequence with PAL settings
If anyone can recommend a search on this problem that limits the results to a manageable number, that would be cool. I’m sure I’m not the first with this, but my searches are ending up in the 1,000’s.
The issue: Two hour project with NTSC footage of several different formats erroneously edited in PAL sequence format.
The problem: Rendering out in PAL format and conforming to 1080p24 introduced duplicate frame stutter.
The hope: Getting the sequence back to the NTSC format it should have been from the beginning.
Any ideas? I’m advising without the project files, so I can’t poke my way around to figure this out.
I thought you’d be able to change the sequence settings relatively easy and get things in shape. But that doesn’t seem possible.
Maybe create sequence with appropriate settings and copy everything over? Except, I’ve had problems with this with small projects and everything copying over correctly, let alone with a full length documentary mixing multiple formats.

You can’t change the frame rate of a sequence when there is a shot in the timeline already. So just create a new sequence with the right frame rate and copy/paste your shots into the new sequence. You’ll need to go through the whole sequence and look for blank frames between shots as sometimes that can happen when changing frame rates of sequences.

If you are editing in a PAL sequence, you will need to correctly convert your NTSC footage to match your PAL footage. You can do this for free with Compressor or pay $100 and use Nattress Standards Conversion.

This will probably be the eventual route. I am just vaguely remembering, from a time or two before when I copied larger projects from one sequence to another with new settings, that things didn’t transfer accurately.
Blank frames, that helps to mention. I suppose I was curious if I would get a response of, “Copy and paste a two hour documentary to a sequence with new settings! You’re making a mess, brotha.”
Also the original editor isn’t around to watch it down for any problems. I’m tele-advising. So I was hoping for an easy fix. But, yep, someone’s gonna have to check this beast for problems after the big paste.
