  Fix for Retime “thumb” not working

  I had a problem with retiming on a long format project (2 hrs) where the retiming “thumb” stopped working in FCP X.

  After a frustrating few hours I discovered there is a “Reset Timing” function. Just select the clip, choose “Reset Timing” from the retime menu or option-command-r. Then the “thumb” works again as expected. This works for both audio and video.

  Tuck this away in case you need it in the future.
