  • First time user of PP CS6!!! Question on Premiere project size and Importing into a new project.

I’m working with about thirty TB of footage, for a feature length doco. and all is tidily imported and organised for editing. Yay!!!
    Now to the cut…
Only problem is it is a little slowish to load and save. Pretty good considering though!
Mmm, I thought. Should I make up some smaller projects and import the master project as a library for footage as required?
Well, I did some tests, and love how small projects are imported easily!
    But…
When I tried importing the master project with all my organized bins, it just wouldn’t import. I just got the basketball of death!
The project I want to import is only 680mb.

    Should I….

Just stick to cutting with the master project with slow saving times, or…

Duplicate it and break it down into smaller ones, then Import sequences into one, once it is assembled?

I would appreciate your feed back as I’m about to start my cut tomorrow.

Is your project easily segmented like this?

If so, the smaller project approach would hold a lot of appeal for me. All those massive saves can really add up (sapping both productivity and morale).

Have you given Prelude [link] a spin?

    Cheers for that.

Would I be able to move my already existing master project into prelude?

I don’t think so — it works the other way. Among other things, you could add metadata to your video files (log your footage) in Prelude which will translate to Premiere, and you can build (very) rough cuts to send to Premiere.
