November 22, 2010 at 5:45 pmA Quantel NewsBox, around 1.992/3.
The first time I tried to edit in a computer was in 1.996 with PP (3?) on a Mac.
After that experience I gave up on trying to edit in a computer till 2.002, when I met FC 2.5.

November 22, 2010 at 6:21 pm[Tom Wolsky] “That’s an interesting question. How many here went through a Media 100 phase?”
I used it in corporate video…between times I was on the Avid. Cheaper and yes, FAR BETTER compression for full quality use. Avid at the time seemed to be designed only for offline workflows (their online codecs were muddy and VERY digital), and it cost like $90,000. Media 100 was in the $30,000 range, and VERY clean.
But, I went back to Avid when I moved to HOllywood. Well, NORTH Hollywood.

The Axial 2010 was AWESOME!!! My favorite editing controller of all time. Would love to get my hands on one so we can display it at the new offices.

November 22, 2010 at 10:00 pmI am surprised no-one has mentioned Lightworks yet. My first contact was with a Lightworks and an early AVID.
First audio system was dSP an Australian company who were in competition with Fairlight. Audio non linear was ahead of video for obvious reasons, but I am still perplexed at the poor ergonomics of editing with a mouse and keyboard, a problem that most audio DAWs worked out more than ten years ago.. At least Lightworks had a controller like a Steenbeck.

November 22, 2010 at 10:07 pmThat you’re the first one to mention it is probably one of the reason it’s about to be open source software.
All the best,
Tom
