firmware update on SONY EX3

Hey what did you do? I also want to update my firmware since mine is 1.04 but i live in Portugal, is already a way to update besides sending camera to SONY?

I got the upgrade firmware directly from sony, buying didn’t have to right computer eg. Windows, that’s why I could t do it by myself. I took it to a camera service centre in London and they did it for me while I waited.

my EX3 is at version 1.1. What is the latest version? How do I go about getting it upgraded? Do I have to go step by step from 1.10 to 1.15, 1.16, 1.17, 1.18, 1.20, etc.? Where can I download the firmware?

You can download version up tools and do it by yourself, but you have to make sure you read the whole manual carefully and follow every step as they said. Second option take it to a service center, they will do it for you, I paid £75 for it. The person in the service centre says, it’s easy to do it and you can do it by yourself.

I clicked on the link you sent me, and selected “XDCAM EX Memory Camcorders and Decks, For models: PMW-320, PMW-350, PMW-500, PMW-EX1R, PMW-EX3, and PMW-F3” . Under there, there’s PMW-EX3 Version 1.16. Under there, there is a line says “Please contact Sony Technical Support at 1-800-883-6817, options 2,5,2 for upgrade assistance”. When I click on “PMW-EX3 Version 1.16”, this is what I got:

I think “CAUTION: Before upgrading to firmware V1.26 or higher, firmware must first be upgraded to V1.13 or higher.” is for EX1, because I had problem with upgrading directly to 1.26 with EX1 before. I don’t see any thing for EX3.

sorry, an update to the site is pending. we changed the firmware installer to remove the start version requirement. you can now safely update an EX3 from 1.0 or higher. i have the firmware on an FTP; please download from there. ftp://pmw-ex3:sony@65.196.27.198

Im on version 1.02_0078, am i able to update to the latest firmware or not? I spoke with tech suupport last week and they said you must be v 1.05 or higher.

according Ian you can do it no is this true?

yes, as stated above you can now update to any production level version from 1.0 or higher.
