I have a newer G5. No intel, but it’s quite new. I’m running Tiger 10.4.4, and Final Cut 5. I’ve noticed that my computer will not recognize my LaCie firewire drive if my camera is already plugged in, and vice versa. If I’m running Final Cut, and have my camera hooked up to my computer, hooking up my LaCie drive, with a Firewire8 cable, completely freezes up my computer. The spin wheel of death appears and never goes away. I’ve tried hooking up my LaCie with a regular firewire cable first. Then, when I open up Final Cut, it doesn’t recognize my camera. My computer doesn’t freeze up, but I am unable to capture. I have never had this problem before. Help

Try this…unhook all your periferals, drives, printers, etc., turn off and then unplug your MAC for a minute or so, plug it back in, connect all you stuff (camera, drives, and all) then turn it on and launch FCP.
I had a firewire problem with a new MAC and this solved it right away.

Unplugging and turning everything off worked to get fcp to recognize my camera. when it wouldn’t recognize later, I did not turn off the computer, but closed fcp, unplugged the firewire, put it back and reopened final cut. then it recognized my camera again. I don’t know why I keep losing the camera, but at least I can get it back.
