When watching the firewire out on a regular TV through a camcorder, the picture jumps and stutters. Very hard to pick shots because you can’t tell if the shot was bad or the computer is stuttering. Are there any recomended settings to change for optimal performance?(video card, ram in Vegas, virtual memory, etc.). 3.0 ghx ht chip 1 mb ddr2 ram x600 ati video card 128MB. (Laptop)

Previewing from unmodified DV source footage should come through at full frame-rate.
Anything else such as non DV source or video with any FX applied will preview at lower frame-rate that is dependant on many factors.

Tell us a little more about what you are previewing.

stutter = check to see if the laptop is in a save power running CPU less then 100% .. right click on MY COMPUTER -Properties = then it shows you windows version , RAM , CPU speed (IE: 1.6ghz) , then current system CPU speed (IE: 800mgz) ..

jump = ?? check ALL cable connections
