  • Firewire or USB for external hard drive?

I am putting together a Vegas powered system as a secondary work area in my edit suite. This computer will promarily be doing existing tape program conversions to DVD. To keep my costs down I have to work within the limitations of my company’s “standard desktop” computer. The computer’s speed is OK but it will only have 1 firewire port and I will need this for input. I am specing an external hard drive for media storage but it will have to connect via USB 2. Will this be satisfactory? I do not anticipate that this system will be outputting to tape but you never know.

    Thanks

    Kevin

Either will work fine. BTW, I use firewire on a laptop like this:

Laptop -> firewire -> disk drive -> firewire -> deck.

This layout is working just fine for input and output even to/from the firewire drive in the chain. So… don’t rule out firewire simply because you only have one firewire connection.
