Yes, I find this to be very common.

I’ve had it happen with 4 FW enclosures of various brands.

I’m up and running, now I just need a new FW case.

So yesterday, I decided to keep the USB2 drive where it is and get both a new FW case and a Seagate drive. Both open box specials. The Seagate is Ultra ATA but won’t mount. I tried the drive that mounted in the USB2 Box, and that wouldn’t mount either – so this new Adaptec case is dead. Then I tried to mount the new Segate in the USB2 and that wouldn’t mount either, so that drive is no good.

To top it off, I tried a new small FW case for my old laptop drive, thinking the FW case was faulty, but the drive wouldn’t mount in the new case either.

Looks Like I gotta go back to Fry’s and return all this garbage. Don’t buy open box stuff: WORD. 🙁

Ah! It was a bum FW cable and it was the one inside the box. I used one of my phat cables and it works great now. Hey Adaptec, didja hear that one?
