firewire capture problem in final cut pro 6.0.1
I just recently upgraded to final cut 6, tried various things to make sure all was well. I have proceeded to start a new project with Final Cut Studio 2, capturing DV NTSC anamorphic via firewire from a Sony HVR-M25U. This is an HDV deck, but I’m capturing standard DV. Some of the footage will briefly hiccup at certain points in the clip: looks like a frame has been dropped, but no dropped frames reported. These hiccups do not occur at regular intervals but they consistently occur at the same place in a clip like a dropped frame would. I find the tapes to be fine; but the media has been captured this way. As a test, I captured some footage from these tapes using the same deck and another one, Sony DSR-11, and my powerbook with FCP 5.1.4. No problems. Incidentally, FCP 6 seems to not be compatible with the DSR-11 because I cannot get a preview in the capture window with the DSR-11 even though I have deck control, albeit sluggish.
To make this more strange, I went into preferences and enabled “abort capture if frames are dropped” and the next time I captured a clip, the “dropped frame” symptom was gone, the clip played perfectly.
It’s another of those strange problems and I would appreciate any advice. I am hoping to NOT restore my system to Final Cut Studio 1.
My system: dual 2 Ghz G5 with AJA Kona LH and Radeon X800-XT, 4.5 GB RAM, OS 10.4.10 and all applications up to date.
Thanks. Richard
