October 9, 2005 at 12:15 pmI use the Big Disk Extremes here but only running via Firewire 800. I would not recommend anyone use USB 2.0 to edit video.

Google Carbon Cloner. It’s a free app. Don’t know if they updated it for Tiger or not.

October 9, 2005 at 12:18 pm[Howie] “I currently have 3 media drives in use. I believe my fourth drive needs to be replaced. It makes a grinding noise and hangs when I try to copy files to a disc to back-up. Have you ever heard of this? “
Yep, sounds like a drive that got bumped or moved when it was turned on. Not a good sound and I would copy any critical material off of it ASAP.
[Howie] “Will I encounter any problems running a new FW drive as my OS X system drive?”
You shouldn’t but you never know. You could have some sort of a conflict when you try it, but you’ll need to install Tiger on to your Firewire drive and try it out.

“I would not recommend anyone use USB 2.0 to edit video.”
Why not?
Many of the Lacie drives are FW/USB 2.0.
Can you please explain what it means when a drive has both FW / USB?
Have you heard of the Extreme Triple Interface by Lacie? My Mac catalog says these drives feature FW800, FW 400 and USB 2.0.
What do you know about the SATA HD drives? The feature 250 GB or 400 GB with 7200 RPM.

Why not? “
USB 2 is not reliable enough for video editing. Use only FW for video editing.
