My firewire suddenly doesn’t recognize my camera anymore. The error message I get is ‘code 10’

A search on the internet learned that there is a conection between ‘code 10’ and SP3 (And I installed SP3 not so long ago…). So I downloade all the microsoft fixes I could find, including a hotfix that was send to me by e-mail. But in all cases, during installation I got the message that my SP3 version was already up to date.

So the question is: does ‘code 10’ always refer to a conflict with SP3? Or can it be that the fire wire card is just damaged and needs to be replaced?

    Any help will be appreciated.

I have been using XP Pro SP 3 for a long time, and have never had a problem with a firewire connection. I am very careful that both the camera and the firewire port are turned off before connecting or disconnecting. I was warned several months ago that firewire ports are easily blown.

Yes I know about this. And I try to be very carefull with that too. But still, would such a thing also give a code 10 error?
