I track and mix audio projects in Vegas 5.

I would like to be able to move events just a few milliseconds in order to time align different mike positions and help tighten up some phase issues. That is, if I zoom in, I can see that the bassdrum’s mike gets hears the sound before the drum overhead and thus is a little out of phase with that mike (at least for the bass drum).

The real solution is to move mikes around until I there is no problem, but I already have some recordings and they are having problems with this issue. SO I would like to be able to move events just a few ms and visually align the BD in the BD mike and the overhead mike.

But when I zoom in to do this, the events move in increments that are too large.

My work around is to just use a delay set to 100% wet and adjust time by ear, but I would like to be able to do this by looking at wave forms.

I have tried changing the project frame rate, but I still can’t get a fine enough resolution. I have turned snap off. Since it has to do with an entire clip (and not it’s ends) I don’t think it has anything to do with zero-crossing, though I have turned that off when I tried to do this with past projects.

So if you could tell me why audio events cn only be moved an entire frame at a time or tell me how I can get a finer control of event placement, I would be quite happy.

    Thank you,

Turn off “Quantize to Frames” (this is what’s holding it to frame slips) and you’ll be able to slip it much finer. I’m sure you know it but the more you zoom in to the timeline, the more accurate your ‘slip’ will be.

Wow, thanks. That is exactly what I have needed; I’ve been trying to figure that out since version SF Vegas 2.
