    Hi.
Probably a silly question, but is there any way to find the size of a finished project( and individual events so I can keep a running total) before it’s all rendered and stuff? I’m new to using this, and the only way I found on the last project was when I went to put it onto a disc and it told me it was too big.
    Cheers.

It depends on the “disc” you are putting it on. There is only one measure and that’s time. Place the timeline cursor at the end of the last event and that’s your time. You can place 1 hr 20 minutes on a DVD before you have to reduce the bit rate which reduces quality.

Yep, I know about that, thanks anyway John. It’s size of a project Gb wise I’d like to be able to find out.
    Cheers.

Tools > Burn Disc > DVD… (and Blu-ray Disc) give you an estimated size of the project with their render parameters.

    Thanks Jorma, I’ll try that.
    Cheers.

I’m not sure that you do know about that or you wouldn’t be asking about keeping track of the size of events. The project does not have a size in GB. You can render the project to many different video formats and it will give you files of different sizes. You can render it to the exact same format with different bit rates and it will give you files of different sizes. So there is no “size” of the project in GB.

As I said, you can fit about 1 hr 20 minutes at 6Mbps on a DVD. You can add 1,000 GB of video to the project and if it never gets longer than 1 hr 20 minutes it will fit on a single DVD. You can place 1,000,000,000 GB of video into a project and as long as it doesn’t exceed 1 hr 20 minutes it will fit on a single DVD.

What I’m trying to point out is that what you are asking for doesn’t exist. The “size” of the project when rendered is determined by the length of the project and the bit rate used to render it. So keeping track of what media and events you add to the project thinking that somehow it will change the final “size” is fuitless. It has no bearing on the size when rendered.

Ok, Cheers John, looks like I got the wrong end of the stick there:)
This video stuff is a touch more tricky than recording and editing music then. Oh well, I’ll get there in the end I expect.
