Finalcut .avi files will only import audio into Premiere PRO
I am using Premiere Pro, and my friend captured my videosfrom a DV tape into his Finalcut through Cannopus. Transfered the captured files to my external HD, and wahla! It only imports audio onto my Premiere Pro but the properties of that file will say (.avi) which should play just fine on Premiere. Also, the files don’t play on any of my PC’s media players (divx,windows media player) except on VLC.
I wonder why that is? Help please?

This says it all.
Do you have the same Canopus codecs installed on your system?
BTW I had no idea that canopus and FCP were ever compatible…Maybe I missed the press release?
If you can get the correct codec installed you should technically be able to see the files video. But I wouldn’t be too reliant on find the codec to insall let alone be able to edit.
I would suggest your friend either:
1. recapture in DV.mov Quicktime codec not Canopus
2. convert all his clips into DV.mov Quicktime filesJon Barrie

Thank you Jon, I am not a 100% sure about that compatibility of Canopus and FCP, however that’s what I was told. Anyway, thank you for your suggestion. I might just have to capture the videos myself via premiere to save me of all the hassle of the MAC-PC issues.
BTW, the missing codec was what I first thought the problem was. If that should be what the problem is, I’m not sure what particular coded I should be looking for?
