Disk warrior is very abrasive. I will not do that, but are you saying trash my current FC preferences, and where are they.

Ill run disk utility on my external drive for permissions.

I’m leaning towards bad install of SL, over a hardware (or lack of) problem.
For me the clue is “Just upgraded to Snow”.
Clean install?

If you have done a proper install, perhaps your system isn’t as maxed out as you think.
What do you consider “maxed out” and “full blown”? A quad (quad what?) may be sufficient for HD. But these days a 12 core Mac Pro with 32GB or more of RAM would be more along the lines of ‘maxed out’.
Your actual specs, and codec your editing when this happens might be helpful.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Speaking from first hand experience, I’ve had Disk Warrior save drives time and time again, and as long as you have the most current version. If you trash FCP preference, and repair permissions and still have issues, I would strongly recommend you consider running disk warrior on your system drive.

Let me guess you just installed the new OS over the old one.

A search of the cow will quickly revile that when you are running a Pro App System that you should ALWAYS clone your system drive onto another then white it and install the the new OS clean and then install your Pro Apps clean.

Big no-no. Project file should always live on your internal Mac HD. Only the media files should live on the external array.

As for the project not responding when coming back from being hidden, not seeing that here on any of our Snow Leopard machines. When you did the clean install of the OS, did you run all the Software Updates before you did the install of FC Studio? And then did you run all the Studio updates after that was installed?

regarding updates, yes.

I have not heard about having the project file on my internal, and media only on external.

That makes most sense out of all the above.

Im open to more suggestions.

Another suggestion… Keep your Autosave Vault on a separate drive. I’m sure you have at least four hard drives on your system if it’s maxed out, right? Multiple copies of your projects in multiple locations make recover possible in case of drive failures.

We are currently using a Facilis TerraBlock which just lost a total of three actual hard drives over the past two and half weeks. If I had not backed up my project files in multiple places, we would have been up the creek without a paddle, if you get drift.

Using an off-site backup, like your MobileMe account would be a great way of protection fro your project files. Project files are the single most important part of your editing. Protect them with your life.
