Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Final question: pausing video!

  • Final question: pausing video!

Posted by Paul Johnson on August 12, 2009 at 10:15 pm

    Hello again!

This is hopefully my final question. Basically, I was wondering if there’s any way to pause footage on one track whilst footage/text/wehatever on the track above it keeps on moving?

So, let’s say I have a video of a desert panning along as an .avi file. I drop it into Vegas, and chroma key some guy walking across said desert on a track above it. When the guy stops walking, I obviously want the moving desert footage underneath to stop too until he resumes walking again.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what my best option is?

    Thanks as always,

    Paul J.

Drop a Velocity envelope on the desired track.
Add 2 points very close to each other at the pause point.
Leave the first one at 100% and set the second one to 0%.
Drag the second one over so that it’s right under the first one.
Add two more points at the point you want to resume action and add 2 more points with one at 0% and the other at 100%.
Drag the fourth one on top of the third one.
That’s all there is to it.

you can take a snap shot of the frame you want to wait on, split the track, move data over and insert the still and stretch to fit. the envelope is better though.

That’s actually what I was doing as a convoluted woraround before, but this velocity envelope thing is very very useful indeed. The work is now speeding by.
It’s just lucky there are forums like this to help out when the help files fail!
