I am trying to export to a DV-PAL AVI file from Final Cut. The quicktime file, I´m converting from is made in After Effects, and is a DV file in a Quicktime wrapper. My final output is DV in a AVI wrapper. I´m trying to convert this, but get artifacts after the file has gone through the export of Final Cut.

Then I tried using MPEG Streamclip, but the same thing happens. Jagged edges, and artifacts that don’t need to be there.

As I understand, the DV content should be able to translate without any loss at all, by just changing the QT wrapper to a AVI wrapper. But both of these programs seem to decode and re-encode the file, causing these artifacts.

I think the term I´m looking for is “transcode”, where you just change the wrapper(header), and not the content. Is there any way to do this on a Mac?

I’m not at all sure about this, but I recall that MPEG Streamclip may have had an option for installing an avi component. Check to see if that exists and if so, was it installed. I know there’s a check box for recompress when exporting QTs. Make sure that’s unchecked.

Great! That recompress thing looks like it could be it. I will look into it, when I get home. Thanx!
