  • final cut wont open suddenly, because of display

Posted by Marc Casey on September 11, 2009 at 1:39 am

I had a power outage and now suddenly Final Cut studio 6 wont open with my G5 powerpc. Upon opening it reads the following…

    – Final Cut Pro recommends a screen resolution of 1024×768; this system currently has a screen resolution of 0x0.

I trashed my preferences and rebooted the mac and still have the problem.

Do I need to reinstall or is there a fix?

My displays are set to 1280 by 1024, ive tried different settings but always getting the same message.

thank you knowledge gods for all you do for us newbies

Boot your MAC in Safe mode, trash preferences, run Diskwarrior..

You might want to try resetting your G5’s PRAM

Disk warrior is something for you to look at getting, It can save your butt. If you are dead in the water and need to do something – Download the latest MacOS “Combo” Update (the combo part is the Key) of the OS you are using and install. (The idea is to overwrite the corrupt file that is messing things up)
also fix permissions and safe boot afterward. (maybe sacrifice a chicken, you never know 🙂 )

    good luck,
    Drew

What kind of display are you using?

    Have you tried disconnecting/reconnecting?

Can you try a different display?

Sounds like FCP is having trouble detecting it.

I’d reset the PMU. It’s a tiny little button on the motherboard. Googling it should bring it up, but include your exact model of G5

So far so good, the problem is “with my display” somehow as I tried a different display and final cut opens what great news!! Although cant understand why it used to work with the original display and then after the power outage it doesnt

Now im just trying to figure out why I no longer have the proper display profile in my color utility and or why I have to resort to another display? Any ways to get the profile back or to prompt the mac to recognise?

I’m using 2 vga to dvi monitor (viewsonics “maybe the problem”),

Thanks you guys are extremely helpful…no reinstalling final cut..oofff

Sounds like your display profile got corrupted. I would plug your other montors back in, then reset your display profile to create a new one.

    GOod sleuthing.

How do you reset your display profile? I got os10.4.11, I used to have VGA display for my “non” working monitors now i only have RGB for them. Although when I plug my screen burnt monitor (old one) I have the VGA display option?

Thank you guys so much for your time and tips, Im new to the site and find this an amazingly ressourful tool.

    Thanks

Also i’ll pick up Disk warrior…thanks
