Final Cut Studio 3 – missing in action
I’ve installed FCS3 on my 5 month old Macbook Pro (OSv10.7.2). I cannot find a Final Cut Studio folder or any of its applications on the hard drive.
I’ve relaunched the Finder app, done Spotlight searches, restarted the laptop. I am not able to reinstall FCS3 as the installers indicate the applications are already installed (all choices dimmed).
I’ve also downloaded and installed the Apple Pro App software update which was available via Software Update soon after the “installation”.
Any ideas, I cannot for the life of me, see a folder called Final Cut Studio inside my Applications folder or any other folder. I do have FCPX on this drive, but this should not be of any consequence.

Hi Piet,
FCP 7 should have moved to folder within your applications folder called Final Cut Studio when you installed FCP X. All FCS apps will be in this folder.You can’t open FCP X and FCP 7 at the same time. You can no longer round trip between FCS applications with this configuration (this can be fixed by reconfiguring the folders somehow).
I like Walter Murch’s description of FCP X, in comparison to a grande piano you’ve got an upright, its got keys, it makes music, its in tune but…..

Phil, according to Apple, it’s not going to install in the same folder. It sees the newer version and only installs all the other apps – Motion, Soundtrack etc. I have to remove FCPX first, re-install FCS3 then re-install FCPX according to support.
Now, about that upright…..

Yuk messy! Similar to my Shake install. Needs to be installed prior to my FCS as the older Shake software breaks the newer FCS.
Does this mean you actually have to re-download FCP X ?
Had to do too many complete system re-installs this year due to upgrades breaking all archived and new Quicktimes recorded on a Firestore drive.

I think I’d throw X in a folder so the installer doesn’t see it first. Then install studio. Then put FCP 7 in a folder, then move X back. Are people just afraid to try stuff like this? Or heck, when you install FCS, just point it at a folder of your own making instead of going with the default.
