  • Final Cut Server…need to clear something up

Posted by Todd George on April 23, 2007 at 11:03 am

    Hello all

just wondering if any of you can clear something up

my boss has the impression that this new sever software is going to ship with 10 seats of fcp

my take is that the server will allow 10 machines with individual seats of fcp installed on them to access data via the server software

if any one out there can clear this up it would be great

thank you in advance for your help

    take care

It supports 10 seats of FCP right out of the box. You still need to own 10 licenses of FCP for this to work.

[walter biscardi] “It supports 10 seats of FCP right out of the box. You still need to own 10 licenses of FCP for this to work. “

The 10 seats included cover all active users, and not all of those need or have to be FCP users, they could also be producers viewing content, AE’s logging files, etc.

its Proximity with the FCP hooks in it….

It ships with 10 client seats of Final Cut Server, it is not FCP, it is an entirely different program that helps you manage your assets as well as many other things. It works with FCP, but FCP does not need to be installed in order to use Final Cut Server. Keep in mind, this program is cross-platform, it works on Mac and PC. You can export a FCP project from it, but it’s not FCP. If you want to get a rough idea of what it can do, go to

This is the software that Final Cut Server is based on, what apple has done in terms of changing and updating this program, since they bought it, no one really knows. We’ll just have to wait until they release more info about it.

    best regards,
