  • Final Cut Problem with new install! Help!

Posted by Larry Wheeler on December 10, 2005 at 10:38 pm

    Got a brand new Dual 2.3 G5.
    OSX 10.4.3
    2.5 GB DDR2 Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 Video Card with 256VRAM
Went to install Final cut pro 4.5 and the production suite…
    All installed without a hitch.
Final Cut doesn’t run. I get an error that says…
    “Configuration Error

This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing. AGP graphics card…”

Motion, Livetype, and DVD Studio 3 run flawlessly, but FCP is not loading. This is a first for me. Any thoughts? Obviously FCP doesn’t like the card, but why? Apple advised me to run software update, I did, and also reinstalled FCP, with same results. I would appreciate some help, got a gig for this tomorrow!

FCP 4.5 requires an AGP video card. Your computer doesn’t have one…its is PCIe.

There is a hack to get it to work…meant for older machine, but works for the current ones as well:

    #29: Need AGP Graphics card

    You either need to either:

    1) use the following hack –

    or

    2) Upgrade to FCP 5

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but FCP 4.5 does not run on the new dual core macs. FCP 4.5 requires an AGP Graphics card, and the new macs have a PCIe graphics card. You must upgrade to fcp 5. There’s been rumors of a hack, but I wouldn’t recommend it. You can search this forum for it, but i think the hack is explained at xlr8yourmac.com

    Good luck in your choices.
