  • Final cut pro problem with preview monitor (force to right one ?)

    Hi,
I have a really strange problem and I hope someone here can help.
I had a working solution with a 3 monitor setup.

Because we changed the fan on one of the videocards 3870 ATI I had to switch locations from slot 1 to slot 2 for the main videocard.
At the moment my preview window stays black and on the slot 1 monitor.
When I disconnect the cable for the slot 1 monitor the preview jumps to the correct monitor and everything works fine.

Is there an option to force Final Cut Pro to only use the monitor I want for the preview or is it always automaticly selecting the card in slot 1 for the preview monitor ?

FCP doesn’t work properly with 2 graphics cards. If you need two computer displays and a preview monitor, you need to get a video IO card (AJA, MATROX, DECKLINK) and an HDTV or broadcast monitor.

The strange thing is that I tested more and when I disconnect the cable from the card in slot 1 everything works as it should on the right monitor.
As soon as I connect the cable again the preview switches to the other monitor and it stays black again.

In the previous setup with the 3870 in slot 1 everything worked flawless with two cards.
It seems however that the main card has to be in slot 1.

Seems the only solution if it can’t be solved in software is to find another way to mount the new cooler so the 3870 can be back in slot 1.

    I’m about to give up…..

I changed the cooler again and placed the 3750 card in slot 1 again.
The old card is back were it was above it.
All monitors are like it was.

Rebooted the Mac pro and voila…… preview on the wrong monitor (the one connected to the slower card).
When I pull the cable out it jumps to the second monitor on the 3750 and everything works just fine again.

How is it possible this worked for about a year or so, and now suddenly doesn’t.
It must be possible to force FCP to a certain monitor ?
