  • Final Cut Pro noobie question – sound not importing off a .VOB from DVD-recording device

Using a Sony DVD recorder, I captured some old footage from an analog camcorder.

When I import the .VOB file, the video shows up just fine, but the audio is missing. The sound works fine when I use DVD Player, so I know it’s there.

    Any ideas?

Dont try and cut from the VOB – it’s an MPEG2 file. No good for editing. Download Mpeg StreamClip off the Apple site (free download) and convert your DVD footage into a DV MOV file.

Better, if you have a DV camera, use it to convert the stuff from the analog camera and digitise it into FCP via firewire. You’ll get better quality images that way.

    Damn. Thanks!

Downloaded and installed Streamclip. I’m converting, as I post. It seems likes it’s taking an inordinate amount of time to work its magic. Should I expect it to always be so slow?

Depends… what system are you running it on? How long is the clip? What resolution are you converting to?
