  • Final Cut Pro no longer opens after Elgato Turbo install

Posted by Jen Stoughton on October 25, 2010 at 10:38 pm

I have an iMac (10.6.4) and I recently installed Final Cut Pro version 7. It worked great until I installed Elgato Turbo – Now Final Cut will not open. When I tried opening Final Cut Pro using Rosetta, I get the following error: “Final Cut Pro requires that your system have a CPU type of G5; this system has a CPU type of G4.” I have since un-installed Elgato Turbo, but I continue to get this error and am unable to open Final Cut. I have also un-installed Final Cut Pro and re-installed – still no luck. Please help! Thanks…

FCP 7 is an Intel only software. Is your iMac an old G4?

Also Snow Leopard is meant to be Intel only.

Ummm how would he have even installed snow leopard onto a non intel iMac? The check is pretty inherent in the installer- same with FCP7 (although I’m aware you alter the installer package contents to stop it checking what kinda system ur trying to install it on to….

there are so many weird things in that post, “Rosetta” that isn’t doable on SL either.

Most likely the solution is to wipe the HD and reinstall everything from scratch.

Ummm sorry but Snow leopard features Rosetta as an optional install…. What are guys on about? You CAN’T install snow leopard onto a G4 because it won’t let you, you CAN’T install FCP on specs which aren’t high enough because it won’t let you, and Rosetta is an optional install to allow you to run PPC apps…. But yes, a clean install may be worth it; Or uninstall the turbo software? Does it have an uninstaller/ tell you how to in a manual somewhere- it could perhaps be somehow messing with stuff…

Assuming an Intel iMac and SL, what would be the point of opening FCP using Rosetta anyway?
