Final cut pro don’t want to open motion file
Posted by Francisco Vazquez on September 21, 2010 at 3:07 amWhat to do when Final cut pro don’t want to open motion files. I have several project files with Motion clips. and the FCP crashes every time I try to open them. Can someone help?

September 21, 2010 at 5:00 amHi Francisco,
Export the stuff directly from Motion and bring it to FC.
Cheers,

September 21, 2010 at 10:57 amAs keen as Apple are to suggest that you can drop Motion files directly onto a FCP timeline, in practice it is slow, unreliable and generally to be avoided. Render them out from Motion as ProRes 4444, the default now I think, and drop them straight onto your FCP timeline – if this is ProRes too, no rendering will be required.
Avoid all .motn files in FCP wherever possible – it’s just another area where FCP needs a massive overhaul.

September 21, 2010 at 10:40 pmHello Rafael: Nothing works. FCP doesn’t want to open any Motion files. Not even new ones. At this point, will you recommend to uninstall and install the suite again?

September 22, 2010 at 1:14 amNo Francisco. Don’t break your head and fallow Ben advice.
Export a self-contained movie frm Motion and import to FC.
The round trip FC-Motion-FC never had worked properly.

September 22, 2010 at 8:44 pmDoes that mean that I have lost the FCP projects that have been working for the last four weeks?

September 23, 2010 at 1:03 amWhy should mean that?
You take the file from Motion and you import to the FCP projects where you have been working for the last four weeks.
