I just finished installing FCS 3, coming from FCE, and have a few questions.

In Easy Setup, what format, rate and use should I use to capture and edit with my XH-A1 1080i shooting at 24f in the highest quality?

What export settings would be best for use on vimeo and youtube?

and lastly, I have read that the only program I need to keep on my main HD is FCP, what would be the easiest way to move all of the other programs to my external drive?

    Thank in advance!

Completely false. All applications should remain in your Applications Folder on your main Hard Drive.

For the second question use Share and select YouTube.

To elaborate on what Walter said, you were misinformed, as he said the apps, must be on the system drive. However the additional content like the Motion content, audio loops, and DVD content can be installed on a separate drive. You have the option to do that in the installation setup process.

    All the best,

Thanks for the responses guys, I will leave the full suite on my main hd.

Can anyone answer my first question, I’m not quite sure which format to use to capture off of my Canon XH-A1 1080i 24f

Thanks again, great help on this site

I decided to use the ProRes codec and the raw footage captured very nicely. Is this the best way to be importing footage?

How do I go from Final Cut Pro to a External Hard drive.
What I’m trying to do is import video and have it end up on a External Hard drive for other people to use.
I sometimes get requests for it to be in a AVI file.
    Is there an easy way?

    Thanks, Lorelei
