Help! I am having problems getting my computer and camera to communicate. I have connected my Sony HDV camera (the HVRZ1P) via an i.Link firewire cable to my Apple Mac (it’s a G5). I have installed Mac OSX tiger and FCP 5. When I start FCP5, it says it does not have external video connected.

Does anyone have any tips??? Might it be a camera setting or an FCP setting?? Or perhaps a video card issue????

Could be any of those? What’s the media? What’d you shoot? What settings are you using on the camera? What settings are you using in FCP? We can’t tell you what’s the right thing to do in FCP without knowing what you’re shooting and what you’re trying to output and what settings you’re using. You might want to start with the camera manual.

    All the best,

    Tom

Thanks Tom. The camera settings are HDV 1080i50 and the FCP easy setup i am using is HDV 1080i50 using HDV firewire. I have shot about six minutes of HDV using an HDV tape, just as a test to see if it works with the computer. i called Apple and they suggested i change the camera setting to down convert to DV and set the FCP settings to DVPAL, to see if that works, which I will try tonight when I get home. But that won’t help in the long term. Any ideas???? Should i provide you with more info from the settings menus?
