Final Cut Pro and Black Magic Intensity Pro Issue
Posted by Pete Stringfellow on February 15, 2008 at 7:47 pmI’m running FCP 6 on my new Mac Pro 8-core sending out from the card (HDMI) to a 50″ plasma.
It works fine with Soundtrack Pro, but FCP only sends the last frame of a clip to the screen….no playback. I tried all of the different video out settings…playback is set to “All Frames”.
What am I doing wrong? I’m going crazy here….

February 15, 2008 at 10:15 pmWhat codec and frame rate are you editing? Have you installed the latest drivers for the intensity card?

February 16, 2008 at 9:01 pmI’m using the 720p HDPRO codec (at 60fps), and I’ve installed the latest drivers of the card.
I can get it working on the screen with other applications, no problem….just in Final Cut Pro.
Yesterday, I was able to get it working in FCP…didn’t change any setting, it just started working. I saved my settings…
But, after shutting down….and starting up again…FCP wouldn’t work with the external video.
???
Doesn’t make sense does it…?…!..?
Thanks for your reply BTW.

Is your OS and FCP version compatible?
Hope you figure it out!

June 29, 2008 at 2:16 amHas anyone solved the issue of outputting 720p60 DVCPRO HD from FCP6 through the Black Magic Intensity Pro card. It is only displaying the last frame on the timeline that the playhead is on. No image motion but I can hear the audio.

July 23, 2008 at 1:15 pmPete,
Sorry for starting this thread and going AWOL. I been working on projects out of town, etc.
I have contacted Black Magic many times only to be told I am the only one complaining about this issue. i know of another friend that I suggested buy the same system so we could work on the same movie together. He is also going insane with the erratic behavior of the card and monitor working and not working while using the same settings.
I have also contacted Apple and deleted the suggested library files of FC that did not solve the issue. A work around that I have used when I can’t get the card to initialize in Final Cut so that I can see clips on the HD monitor is to close Final Cut>open Black Magic Media Express>load a clip> toggle between playback and capture until the clip plays on the HD monitor> close BM Magic Express> Open Final Cut and a project. The system then works and I can actually change to previous projects with different settings with success. The next time I fire up the system, it might work properly or it might not.I am using an 8 core 2.8 Mac Pro, FC 6.0.4, Intensity Pro 2.0 driver
Black Magic site states the 2.0 driver and Intensity Pro are compatible with FC 6.0.3
Please Contact Albert Chu at Black Magic if you have the same problems so i am not the only one banging the drum. Here is his response to me on how to set up a sequence and the Black Magic phone number.
Hello Douglas,
What I think is going on here is when switching easy setups, the preset is
not switched (feel free to correct me if I am wrong). Basically, when
switching easy setups, the settings are not retroactive so you always have
to create a new sequence and then double click on the new sequence. From
there, the new easy setup is applied. So for instance suppose you were set to Blackmagic NTSC 8 bit and wanted to
switch over to 1080i 59.94. You would go to easy setup, find Blackmagic
1080i 59.94 8 bit (or compressed), click on setup. From here, you need to
create a new sequence and then double click on the new sequence to be set on
1080i, otherwise you will still be set on NTSC.Hope this clears things up. We have a support line at 408.954.0500 option

July 23, 2008 at 6:12 pmFirst of all…THANK you for responding….
I got the same kind of response… “It’s just you” type thing. I’m so happy to see that it’s NOT just me. We should ban together (you, me and your friend) and do a conference call with the Black Magic folks…maybe then they’ll listen. When it works, it’s GREAT!!! but…. it’s as the title suggests “magic”..so I feel like I need to have some magic to get the thing working. :-/
I’ll try your work-around, see if it helps any.
THANKS again!!!!

Where did you purchase your Intensity Pro? Just want to see if there is a pattern?

September 19, 2009 at 7:33 pmHi all,
I’m a potential Intensity Pro buyer and I’m wondering if any of you in this thread might know how this issue ended up.
Was this problem ever solved and if so, what was the hitch???
Sure appreciate the info. I’d hate to buy one of these cards and discover the same issue.
many thanks.

September 19, 2009 at 7:45 pmOK, additional searching has turned up what appears to be a solution.
Something about the Blackmagic driver not actually being updated!
You can find it here:

hope this helps…
