    Hi everyone,

First of all, I’m running Mac OS 10.5.8 and FCP 6. I have a Mac Pro 8 Core. Earlier today I was rendering and playing back fine. Then suddenly I opened my project and got the error to the effect of, “Final cut can’t render effect Gamma with your graphics card.” I’m paraphrasing there. I haven’t gotten this error before, and this project isn’t more complicated than any other I’ve been working on. The sequence is only about 10 minutes, with the most complicated effect being a few layers of text.

Then, when trying to playback, I’m getting major frame droppage — like, seconds worth of droppage. It is hanging on the part of the footage that has three layers of text. The craziest part is, the playback is also hanging on footage with no effects and no text — in a sequence set to the same settings as the footage itself.

I have to say I’m stumped. I changed the sequence settings through “unlimited” and “safe” rt, scrubbing, high and low quality, etc. with no luck. Any idea what may be causing this?

An added thing: in order to view the footage I’m working on, I gave up and just rendered the footage as a MOV export, and the FCP render is seeming odd as well. I’m getting two cores barely chugging, and when the render dialog is active, I get a pinwheel, pointer, pinwheel, pointer, pinwheel type of lag.

Thanks for any help. Sorry the problem is so vague.

    Cheers,
    Aemilia

    Hi
You may already know this, but try upgrading to FCP 6.06, and the ProApps update to see if that works

    Hi Tim,

Yes, I’m up to date. 6.0.6 is what I’m running.

It’s a sequence of about 10 minutes in length drawing from about 15 different MOV files. The playback hung at the very beginning, before any clips, with simply two title card layers generated from final cut’s text effect. what happens specifically is that the audio plays uninterrupted, but the video hangs on a single frame and does not advance.

    Thanks,
    Aemilia
