    Thanks!

    Hi Jerry,

This seems to be a reply to my post although the content of your reply has so little relation to my post that I find it hard to see the connection. I did not recommend purchasing a used system. I don’t think that purchasing a used system makes sense unless you happen to stumble on a bargain. I think the best strategy is to get a reburb or open box or demo of the previous models. Refurbs are normally about 20% less and previous models are normally 10 to 20 percent less. These prices are normally LESS than used systems on Ebay.

My last purchase was a refurb (full warranty) DP 1.8 (the REV A with 8 RAM slots etc.) right after the Rev B models were introduced. The original new price was $2,500. I paid $1,829 including shipping. I sold my DP867 on Ebay for $1,400. I will probably replace the G5 in about a year. I expect to sell it for over $1k and pay under $2k for a system that is considerably faster. At that point I will have spent less and have a faster system than if I had spent $3k on the DP 2.5 which was the top system when I got my refurb. So I start out with a system that is slower but 18 motnh’s down the road I have a faster system and have spent less money. It is also easier in terms of cash flow to spend $600 or $800 every year or so rather than spending more and keeping the system longer.

I realize for a lot of people on this board it makes more sense to purchase the latest fastest system but that is not best for everyone.

    Best Wishes!

    Mitch
