  • Final Cut Error opening project “file format is too new for this version of the application.”

I went through the media tool on my Final Cut Pro and consolidated sequences and Media to another drive. When my friend tries to open it she gets this error message “file format is too new for this version of the application.” We have the same exact version how can we get this to work. Is it a setting?

Ask your friend to run Software Update. Although you’re both using the same major version of FCP, there may be a point release that your friend hasn’t installed yet.

When you say software update you mean go to the apple icon and run software updates right? We currently both do this so I know we have the same updates. Is there anything else?

    Project Repair might fix this:

Do you both have the same OS?

I tried the repair kit and it says that there is nothing corrupt and that it is repaired i guess. I still can’t open the project nor can I open the version that I consolidated through media manager onto the drive.

Try making a new user and opening the project.

I think this has been addressed in this thread, but “Diana” needs to run software update from the Apple menu.
