I was working in a FCP 5 project on my laptop when my laptop died. So, being on a tight deadline, I tried to reinstall FCP 5 on a different computer so I could pick up where I left off and edit through the night. When I tried to reinstall, the FCP part of the installer disk was gray and only CinemaTools. LiveType, etc were available for installation. The computer where I am trying to reinstall, is a new iMac 2GHz PowerPCG5 with 2GB ram. The computer’s other apps were migrated from a different computer after installing the O.S. One of those migrated apps was Final Cut Xpress. I called Apple Care and they told me to do an archive reinstall because it seemed that because Final Cut Xpress was a migrated application it was damaged and was interefering with the installation of FCP 5. I did this and no luck. I threw away everything that had FCP in its name from the computer and I tried again. Made a new user. No luck. I really do not want to have to wipe out my harddrive. Do you have any suggestions? I do not totally understand why migrated software would mess up a new installation..
    Thanks
    Kari

There are instructions for uninstalling Final Cut Pro 4 at https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301182 . Whether this gets all the FCP 5 files, I don’t know, but there are definitely files you need to delete that don’t have the string “Final Cut Pro” in them…might give it a try. Hope it helps.
