Filters on clips in bin retroactively
Hi Guys
I’ve just had a project come in that has been roughly edited and, while long form, is comprised mostly of footage from about ten long interviews. Rather than digging through a very messy timeline to color correct I would like to apply a color correction to the original complete clips in the bin. If I do this and then build the edit from scratch the filters stay on each clip in the timeline – easy if it didn’t have hundreds of edits built already! However, if I do this retroactively, and apply the filter to the master clip in the bin I don’t seem to be able to make it appear on the clips from this interview in the timeline. I tried the obvious relinking and so on but that doesn’t seem to make any difference.
Any ideas?

Hey Chris!!! Long time no see…
What you propose above may sound good and logical, it is seldom really the answer.
Where the answer does lie is in the FCP “Find All” feature. Color grade one clip, copy that one, use Find All to highlight every clip from that interview or reel, paste the filter to all those clips, and move on.

Thanks David, and great to hear from you too – it seems so long ago now since we struggled with the slow and painful demise of Discreet edit together! You’ll have to drop by next time you make it up to San Francisco… and thanks for the tip, I knew there was a workaround somewhere.
