  • Filter to cut down on ‘starbursts’ lens flare?

I’m stuck using a Vixia r700 for a night shoot (please stop laughing). I’ve figured out how to get a good picture out of it, despite the bad lighting, but the darn lights all have starbursts. I’m taping Christmas lights and they’re all flaring like this.

(Oh, go ahead and laugh. This IS ridiculous…)

Is there a filter that can tone this down? I was thinking of using a mist / diffuser…wrap some pantyhose on it if I have to — or would a polarizer work best for this?

    It has 43mm threads.
