Filter Effects – creating an Old School Flash Bulb feel with stills?
Hey gang,
I am working on an Animatic with just stills for a pitch and my creative lead has asked me to sprinkle fluttery fast cuts (around 5 frames in length) with the new stills he has created in Photoshop.
My question is how can I create an Old School Flash Bulb feel with stills – they need to feel like a picture is pulsing w/ luminosity (like there is a light behind the footage/still) i need to do this within fcp and its due by friday am – no time or resources for AE person.
any advice or help would be great – i have tried a few filters but i am curious to get some feedback from the cow crew.

One way to get a white flash between each image is to use the Dip to Color dissolve. By changing the color to white and reducing the dissolve length to a few frames you can get a nice looking flash. . . its a simple, QUICK solution. You could use a filter and keyframe the effect (levels works nice), but its more labor.

Check out Too Much Too Soon’s Flashframe transition. It also blurs the source/destination a bit — it has a little more punch than just a dip to white. It’s free.
Check out Volumetrix’s zoom and blur wipe, too. They’re $65, but it’s an easy cool look.
