Anyone know how to create a film strip look? Animate the same frame vertically and if possible make the dots at the side. I have after effects as well as Xpress pro if the technique requires both.

you can draw out he frame in photoshop usin an oversized canvas then animate tha with somemotion blut in AE. Depending on how many different looks ya want, you may only have to render a couple of these. You can render em with alphas and do the rest of the work in Avid.
I bet wit a search you can find a perferated filmstrip frame with an alpha online. You can at least grab a jpg of google images then cut out what is needed.
It may just be easier to create from scratch. Just rounded edged rectangles, really.

    Just for technical accuracy… 😉

If it is 4:3 sources, use 4 perfs per frame, if 16:9, then 3 perfs per frame… unless there is letterboxing invlolved…

To animate the same frame vertically, duplicate the frame on the timeline x amount of times and add a verticle push effect between each frame.
