Film Maker Stuck, Please Help
Posted by Sulaman Hameed on November 3, 2006 at 7:55 amHello,
We get out film transfered on the Beta Tapes through Telecine 25fps.
We Captured all Beta Clips on Final Cut Pro and edited the whole Film 25fps.
Now the whole film (3 Hrs) is available on Timeline in 25fps.
Our next step is to acquire EDL of this Project Convert it to 24fps ; and then get a cut list for cutting the Final Negative.
Please advise step by step on how to get it done.Suleman Hameed

November 3, 2006 at 8:09 amHmmm…how do you do this, as Cinema Tools does not convert a PAL EDL to 24fps. I was all set to say “Use Cinema Tools,” But when I look at how to do it, it says plain as day on page 207:
“Note: Cinema Tools does not support converting PAL EDLs to 24 fps. ”
This is a good question…

November 3, 2006 at 11:35 amYou don’t need 24 fps EDL to cut negative.
Have you talked to the negative cutter yet? Do you have cam roll and keykode burn-in on your Beta tapes? Do you have telecine logs?

November 3, 2006 at 12:28 pmDid you use telecine logs to capture your footage? Is it captured scene&take ie. is every take a separate media file?

November 3, 2006 at 2:57 pmExport FCP Batch List and import it into the fresh Cinema Tools database. Tell Cinema Tools to connect entries in the database to the media files. Open each clip and using Identify button make sure burned-in KeyKode and CamRoll/LabRoll matches the numbers in the database. Check several times for each clip – a second past the beginning, a second before end and somewhere in the middle in case there are several takes in one file. In case there is more than one camera roll in one file – the KeyKode is not continuous – you must go back to FCP, split the clip and create as many media files, as there are camera rolls. Then import them in FCP, replace all the cuts with these new clips and add them to the Cinema Tools database. When you’re absolutely sure all data in Cinema Tools database is correct proceed to export Cinema Tools film list from the FCP Export Menu.
This all is in the FCP and Cinema Tools manual.

November 3, 2006 at 4:56 pmEspecially check the “Working with PAL Video” portion of the Cinema Tools manual.
You will need to know whether the film was telecined with the 24&1 method (adding two extra fields per second) or 24@25 method (each film frame goes exactly to one video frames, resulting in a 4% increase in speed).
